We have been breeding a long time now and are starting to get an increase in the number of people coming to us who have had Siamese & Orientals die young from a range of diseases. While we have had none reported in our own lines, it did get us thinking. So we have done some research and decided to get our cats tested to rule out any issues.
All our breeding cats have been tested and are cleared for the following hereditary diseases well known in Siamese and Orientals:
Pyruvate Kinase (PK) Deficiency
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA - CEP 290)
A note regarding Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) - this is becoming progressively more well known and common in the oriental/siamese breeding world. We have been in touch with the most prominent researcher in the US (Leslie Lyons) and advised for this breed type there is only one confirmed test - ultrasound. An ultrasound is $400-$500 per animal. Its my understanding the problem with HCM in Siamese/Orientals is that it cannot be definitively ruled out - even if an ultrasound is completed it is an indication that the cat does not have HCM AT THAT POINT IN TIME. It does not mean they will never develop it. Current recommendations are to complete an ultrasound prior to breeding, and again every couple of years.
We have not yet completed any ultrasounds, primarily because we have had no reason to suspect it in our breeding lines. We have 5 generations of our line in our cattery, we have had no issues with our own cats, nor any reported to us from kittens we have sold.
We encourage all new (and existing!) parents of our kittens to get in touch with us should anything arise, and allow us to talk to your vet. This enables us to provide parentage and genetic history to assist with the kitten's health, and also makes us aware if there is something we should test our own cats for.
Every care is taken to provide happy and healthy kittens - and that is our most important goal.

At Jayallwend Siamese we specialise in breeding pedigree Siamese & Oriental Ebony kittens.
We are a small breeding cattery, consisting of mother and daughter team (Wendy & Joni). Together we have been breeding for more than 40 years. We breed for enjoyment and pleasure, and only have a few litters available per year.
Our aim is to produce a kitten exceeding NZCF breed standards, who has an outstanding nature and personality. Our kittens are bred for their temperament, making them a lively addition to your family - friendly, courageous, loyal, mischievous and fun!
These are PEDIGREE Siamese & Oriental kittens, registered with the New Zealand Cat Fancy (www.nzcatfancy.gen.nz). They are different from pure bred cats bred by backyard breeders in that their lineage can be traced and the breeders themselves must be registered and have codes to follow. We have over 40 years of combined experience but do not have a large breeding cattery. We do this simply for the enjoyment & pleasure, which is why we only have a couple of litters available per year. We will only sell our kittens to good homes, so please do not be offended if we ask questions. Our thoughts, first & foremost, go with the kittens, so knowing the environment they are going into is important to us, and enables us to ensure a perfect fit with you and your new kitten.
We can & do send kittens throughout the country, having homed our kittens in Christchurch, Dunedin, Wellington & up to Auckland with many repeating the experience to add to their new cat family.
All our kittens come desexed, wormed, de-flead, first vaccination (including vet check), pedigree (which shows their ancestors back to great, great grandparents), & our special kitten pack, which includes a full information sheet, food, blanket, toy, pet insurance etc. Wendy also microchips your kitten and lists the details on the New Zealand Companion Animal Register (www.animalregister.co.nz).

Jayallwend were great to deal with, extremely transparent, forthcoming and helpful to deal. Nothing was a problem. This was extra important to us as we were in another part of the country.
Our gorgeous Havana Oriental Shorthairt girl Stella is such an awesome cat; intelligent, active, super outgoing and friendly and well adjusted, with a lovely personality. We love her to bits! Being able to choose the rest of her Pedigree name was cool too.
Stella integrated with our 4yo Javanese boy Ziggy almost immediately, which really surprised us, and they're now inseperable!
Aside from her having fleas when we got her, it was a perfect experience, and as far as our cat goes, she couldnt be better.
We highly recommended Jayallwend and their lovely kitties.

Beatrix "Jayallwend Black Mamba" is our gorgeous ebony oriental shorthair. Beatrix came to us healthy and happy, with the shiniest coat I've ever seen! She came desexed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Beatrix has an independent spirit, although she loves to chat to us alot, and she is extremely cuddly at night. She is a huntress and loves to play alot!
Dealing with Jayallwend has been absolutely awesome, we were able to give a preference for what kind of kittens (gender, colour) we wanted, and once we had decided on which kittens we were getting we received photos to see what they were like. Communication with Jayallwend was really good throughout and we were also able to contact Jayallwend whenever we needed to get support and advice while our kittens were settling in. Jayallwend has provided us with gorgeous kittens that look true to their breed, in great health, and they have the best personalities! We are so happy with our babies!

Keyser "Jayallwend The Legend" is our gorgeous seal point siamese. Keyser came to us healthy and happy, with the most beautiful blue eyes! He came desexed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Keyser has a really loving personality, he is an absolute smooch, often flopping on his side so he can have his belly rubbed! He purrs as soon as you touch him!
